Namibia β€” Sossusvlei orange dunes, Etosha lions and elephants, Skeleton Coast, Swakopmund β€” is extraordinary. Visa at Namibia HC Abuja (~NGN 110,000). YF mandatory. Fly via Johannesburg. Self-drive is ideal: excellent roads and dramatic landscapes.

Key Warnings

  • Yellow fever mandatory from Nigeria. Namibia HC will not process without it.
  • Apply at least 3 weeks before travel β€” Lagos applicants must factor in an Abuja trip.
  • Self-drive requires a 4WD for gravel roads in most parks. GPS navigation is essential in remote areas.

Insider Tips

  • Sossusvlei (Namib-Naukluft Park) is the highlight of any Namibia trip β€” the orange sand dunes against white salt pans are iconic. Dune 45 is driveable (5:30 AM start for sunrise). Book accommodation inside the park (Desert Camps, Sossus Dune Lodge) for best access.
  • Etosha National Park is self-drive at its finest β€” over 130 watering holes, two floodlit ones you can watch all night. The best camps (Okaukuejo, Halali) have waterhole access within metres of your tent.
  • Swakopmund on the Atlantic is Namibia's adventure capital β€” quad biking on dunes, sandboarding, skydiving, and seal colonies at Cape Cross. The German colonial architecture and German bakeries are a surreal contrast to the desert.

Namibia moved to online pre-approval alongside visa on arrival
