Entry rules for travellers from Uganda are changing — verify before you fly

Uganda declared an Ebola outbreak on 15 May 2026 after cases were imported from the DR Congo, and several countries introduced precautionary entry restrictions on arrivals from Uganda — the UAE suspended visas for arrivals from Uganda, the DR Congo and South Sudan from 6 June 2026. Uganda declared the outbreak contained on 5 July 2026 and asked for the restrictions to be lifted. Requirements on this route may have changed since we last checked, and some states are reviewing their rules week by week.

Namibia is extraordinary — Sossusvlei dunes, Etosha NP, Skeleton Coast, Swakopmund. The logistical hurdle for Ugandans is the visa: no Namibia HC in Uganda means applying at Namibia HC Nairobi (45 minutes from Entebbe by air). YF mandatory. Worth the effort.

  • Sossusvlei (Namib-Naukluft Park) is Namibia's showpiece — towering orange sand dunes against white salt pans. The Dune 45 sunrise is iconic. Stay at Sesriem Camp (inside park gate) to be first in for sunrise access.
  • Etosha National Park has over 130 watering holes and two floodlit ones you can watch at night from your camp. The Okaukuejo and Halali camps have floodlit waterholes — watching elephants, rhinos, and lions at midnight is unforgettable.
  • Namibia is excellent for self-drive — roads are well-maintained and distances are vast but manageable. A 4WD is recommended for Sossusvlei. GPS essential. The B1 highway (north–south spine) is good tar.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Get yellow fever vaccination

    UVRI Entebbe or Mulago Hospital, Kampala. Yellow card at least 10 days old.

  2. Contact Namibia HC Nairobi and book appointment

    Fly Entebbe (EBB) → Nairobi (NBO) (~45 min, Kenya Airways) to submit in person. Confirm address and appointment at mha.gov.na first. Prepare lodge bookings and all documents.

  3. Submit application and pay ~USD 80 (~UGX 296,000)

    In-person at Namibia HC Nairobi. Apply at least 4 weeks before travel to allow processing and return travel time.

  4. Collect visa and fly via Johannesburg to Windhoek

    Entebbe (EBB) → Johannesburg (JNB) → Windhoek Hosea Kutako (WDH). Ethiopian or South African Airways. Total: ~7–9 hours from Entebbe.

Health Requirements

Namibia runs pre-approval and visa on arrival together

Since 1 April 2025 Namibia operates a combined system: an online pre-approval through the Ministry of Home Affairs portal, and a visa still issued at the border. The fee is N$1,200 for African Union nationals either way. This page previously described a consular application that is not required.
