Uganda declared an Ebola outbreak on 15 May 2026 after cases were imported from the DR Congo, and several countries introduced precautionary entry restrictions on arrivals from Uganda — the UAE suspended visas for arrivals from Uganda, the DR Congo and South Sudan from 6 June 2026. Uganda declared the outbreak contained on 5 July 2026 and asked for the restrictions to be lifted. Requirements on this route may have changed since we last checked, and some states are reviewing their rules week by week.

Argentina is one of the world's most extraordinary destinations — Buenos Aires, Patagonian glaciers, Iguazú Falls, and the wine valleys of Mendoza. The main challenge for Ugandans is the absence of an Argentine Embassy in Uganda; apply at the Argentine Embassy in Nairobi. YF mandatory.

  • Patagonia (El Calafate, Perito Moreno Glacier, Torres del Paine) is spectacular but remote and expensive. Flying is the only practical option from Buenos Aires — LAN Argentina flies BUE–FTE (El Calafate). Budget USD 200–400/day for Patagonia lodges.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Get yellow fever vaccination

    UVRI Entebbe or Mulago Hospital Kampala. Yellow card at least 10 days old.

  2. Contact Argentine Embassy Nairobi to book appointment

    Email the Argentine Embassy Nairobi (1 Limuru Road) to arrange a visa appointment before travelling from Kampala. Allow 3–4 weeks lead time.

  3. Travel to Nairobi and submit application

    Submit passport, photos, YF cert, bank statements, return ticket, hotel bookings. Pay ~USD 50 (~UGX 185,000). Entebbe (EBB) → Nairobi (NBO) ~45 min by Kenya Airways.

  4. Collect visa (5–10 days) and fly to Argentina

    Entebbe (EBB) → Addis Ababa (ADD) → Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) with Ethiopian Airlines. Or via São Paulo (GRU). Total: ~20–24 hours.

Health Requirements

⚠️ Yellow Fever Certificate required. Uganda is a yellow fever endemic country. Argentina requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate from travellers arriving from endemic countries including Uganda. Certificate must be at least 10 days old. Obtain from Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe or Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.

    Argentina assesses whether you can fund the trip without working. Statements are read over months.

    Fix: Several months of bank statements plus proof of income, and documentation of any sponsor.

  • Ties to Uganda not established

    The officer is weighing whether you will return at the end of the visit.

    Fix: Employer letter with approved leave and a return date, property or business registration, family commitments.

  • The journey to the mission derails the application

    There is no Argentine mission in Uganda. An application that cannot be completed in person stalls rather than being refused outright.

    Fix: Establish with the Nairobi or Pretoria mission what must be done in person before spending on travel.
